Product Description
Chicken Cock Whiskey was originally established in 1856 by James A. Miller in Paris, Kentucky, the seat of Bourbon County. Originally Paris was called Hopewell and was part of Virginia, having been settled in 1775 by Lawrence Protzman from Hopewell, New Jersey. All that changed, however, in 1790 when a petition was raised to change the name to Paris, five years after Bourbon County was formed. Why, you must ask, this sudden rush to honor all things French? Well, our French allies were mighty helpful during the Revolutionary War and the desire to rename the town Paris and county Bourbon were done out of gratitude to the French for their assistance in winning us our independence. A couple short years later Kentucky was admitted to the Union as the fifteenth state in 1792, which is why Bourbon County is know in Kentucky and not Virginia as it originally was. Chicken Cock "Chanticleer," finished in the best French cognac we could find, is our nod to the pioneering spirit of our forefathers. Just as they thanked the French for their help in creating this amazing country we call home, we thank them for creating the brand that we now have the honor of shepherding in the 21st century. They would be thrilled to see "The Famous Old Brand" thriving 166 years later.
